You can do a simple test at home to find out if you have hepatitis C.
Hepatitis C is a virus that affects your liver. It can be cured by taking a course of tablets.
Lots of people have hepatitis C without knowing. Even if you do not know you have it, it can damage your liver and can sometimes lead to life-threatening conditions like liver cancer or liver failure.
Testing and treatment
You can do a free, confidential hepatitis C test at home. You prick your finger to get some blood and then send the blood to get tested. This is called self-sampling.
Please note, this service is only available for people aged over 18 years old, with an address in England.
Hepatitis C can be treated with a free course of tablets from the NHS. For most people, hepatitis C is cured after taking the tablets for 8 to 12 weeks.
Modern hepatitis C treatment is simple to take and usually has very few side effects.
Hepatitis C used to be treated with Interferon injections together with tablets or capsules. Interferon is no longer used.
